Lord and Lady Fisher were the first people to import miniature donkeys to the UK. In 1980 they imported two separate herds from the USA to their home at Kilverstone Wildlife Park. Since 1997 they have imported further herds of miniature donkeys from Canada, Texas, New York and Washington states. At the Marklye Miniature Donkey Stud there are now jacks and jennies of six different colours: Black, Grey, Brown, Red, Pink and Ivory. To see photos follow the link at the side of the page. The miniature donkeys originally came from Sardinia where they are now extinct. The Romans are the first on record to have found miniature donkeys when they invaded Sardinia in the second century. Lady Fisher firmly believes that if something is to be called miniature it must actually be so. At Marklye all the miniature donkeys stand between 29 and 32 inches and are undoubtedly miniature! Lord and Lady Fisher have exported their miniature donkeys worldwide to Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Italy and the USA. The foaling season at Marklye is from April to November and there are nearly always foals for sale. At Marklye we have 30 miniature Mediterranean Donkeys, including 4 Jacks (Stallions) in Black, Brown, Ivory and Red. Therefore there are many different bloodlines within the Markle Stud, where we use a selected breeding programme to ensure the finest quality foals.
